Xiao Lei Salovara was the principle harpist with the Shanghai Peking Opera and the Shanghai Film Orchestra. She recorded for all film studios in Shanghai, China for ten years. Xiao Lei (pronounced as in Swiss "chalet") has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony, Cleveland Ballet, and on classical music station WCLV-FM. She was a guest performer on Tonight Show. She has also performed with celebrities like Yanni and Pavarotti.
Xiao Lei Salovara was born in Shanghai, China, where she began her musical training at the age of four. She attended the Shanghai Conservatory Music High School, and studied the harp with her mother who was the first professor of harp at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Xiao Lei continued her education at the Cleveland Institute of Music, receiving her bachelor's and master's degrees in music perfromance, as well as an Artist Diploma under the tutelage of the world renowned harpist Alice Chalifoux.
Xiao Lei Salovara taught in the preparatory harp department of the Cleveland Institute of Music. Currently, she teaches at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Adult Education Harp Department and operates a private harp studio. She is a versatile harpist with a unique style and performs regularly at all types of functions throughout Northeastern Ohio.
